The Aquascape Low Density Rigid Filter Mat provides a porous, open-cell foam surface optimised for beneficial bacteria colonisation. In multi-stage filter setups, the low-density mat goes last in the flow path, after coarser mechanical stages have captured most suspended particles, allowing bacteria to work on dissolved nutrients without constant clogging from solid waste.
Open Cell Structure for Maximum Bacterial Surface Area
Low-density foam has larger, more open pores than medium or high-density variants. That open structure provides more surface area per unit volume for bacterial attachment and allows water to pass through with minimal flow resistance, which maximises the contact time between water and the bacterial film. Use it in the biological stage of a biofilter or as a finishing medium in a waterfall filter box.

How to Use
Position in the last stage of the filter housing's flow path, downstream of coarser mechanical media. Rinse every 4 to 6 weeks in pond water to remove accumulated solids without stripping the bacterial biofilm. Avoid tap water, which contains chlorine that kills beneficial bacteria. Replace when the foam permanently compresses or breaks down structurally.
