BF1600 FilterFalls Replacement Media
The Atlantic Water Gardens Matala filter kit provides three stages of replacement filter media — coarse, medium, and fine — sized for the BF1600 FilterFalls waterfall filter. Matala media is the professional standard for biological pond filtration: its three-dimensional polyethylene matrix provides exceptional surface area for beneficial bacterial colonisation while remaining easy to clean and structurally stable over years of service.
Three-Stage Filtration, One Kit
This kit provides the complete three-stage media set for the BF1600: coarse media intercepts large debris and pre-filters before finer stages; medium media provides the primary biological colony site; fine media polishes the water before it exits over the waterfall weir. The 18" × 14" × 4" (46 × 36 × 10 cm) format is precision-cut to fit the BF1600 without trimming. Replace all three stages simultaneously when media becomes permanently compressed or colonised with non-removable debris that restricts flow, typically every two to four seasons.

How to Use
Remove the BF1600 from service and discard old media. Install coarse media in the bottom of the media chamber, medium above it, and fine media at the top adjacent to the waterfall weir. Return the filter to service. Note that new media will take 4–6 weeks to establish a beneficial bacteria colony — water clarity may be reduced temporarily during this cycling period. Rinse media with pond water (not tap water) during cleaning to preserve the bacterial colony.
Ideal for Canadian pond builders and owners maintaining BF1600 FilterFalls biological filtration through multiple seasons.
