BF1900 FilterFalls Replacement Media

The Atlantic Water Gardens Matala filter kit provides the complete three-stage coarse, medium, and fine replacement media for the BF1900 FilterFalls waterfall filter. Sized at 19" × 17" × 4" (48 × 43 × 10 cm) to fit the BF1900's larger media chamber, this kit replaces the full media set in a single purchase — ensuring a consistent, fresh three-stage filtration sequence from the first cleaning cycle after installation.

Sized for the BF1900's Larger Chamber

The BF1900 FilterFalls provides a higher flow capacity and larger media volume than the BF1600, making it the appropriate waterfall filter for larger ponds. Its media kit is proportionally larger — the 19" × 17" format provides meaningfully more biological surface area than the BF1600 kit. This matters for ponds with higher fish loads, where the biological media must process a greater ammonia and nitrite input to maintain water quality. Fresh Matala media supports rapid recolonisation with beneficial bacteria after replacement, typically reaching stable nitrification within four to six weeks.

Compatible Filter Atlantic BF1900 FilterFalls
Dimensions 48 cm × 43 cm × 10 cm (19" × 17" × 4") per stage
Stages Coarse, medium, fine (complete three-stage set)
Material Matala polyethylene matrix
Replacement Interval Every 2–4 seasons or when media resists effective cleaning

How to Use

Remove all old media from the BF1900 chamber. Install coarse media in the lower position, medium in the middle, fine closest to the waterfall weir. Return to service and allow 4–6 weeks for biological cycling. Clean media by removing each stage separately and rinsing with pond water — never use tap water or chlorinated water, which kills beneficial bacteria. Monitor ammonia and nitrite levels during the cycling period.

Ideal for maintaining BF1900 FilterFalls biological waterfall filtration in medium to large Canadian koi ponds.
