Large FilterFalls Replacement Media

The Atlantic Water Gardens large-format Matala filter kit provides the complete three-stage coarse, medium, and fine replacement media for larger FilterFalls and Big Bahama waterfall filter installations. This kit's larger format dimensions address the highest-capacity waterfall filter housings in the Atlantic range — ensuring the full media chamber is refilled with matched stages in a single purchase.

Maximum Biological Capacity

Larger FilterFalls housings serve the biggest ponds in the Atlantic Water Gardens system range — ponds where biological load from large koi populations places the highest demand on filter media surface area. The large-format Matala kit provides the maximum media volume available in this replacement series. Fresh Matala media establishes beneficial bacterial colonies more rapidly than alternative media types due to its open, three-dimensional matrix structure — an important advantage when replacing media in an established koi pond where nitrogen cycle interruption must be minimised.

Compatible Filters Large-format FilterFalls and Big Bahama waterfall filter housings
Stages Coarse, medium, fine (complete three-stage replacement set)
Material Matala polyethylene matrix — biological and mechanical filtration
Application High-capacity biological waterfall filtration
Replacement Interval Every 2–4 seasons or when permanently fouled

How to Use

Remove all old media from the FilterFalls housing. Sequence the replacement stages with coarse at the bottom (inlet side), medium in the centre, and fine adjacent to the waterfall weir. Return to service and monitor water quality during the 4–6 week biological cycling period. Clean media stages individually using pond water rinse — never tap water. Replace all stages simultaneously rather than staggering replacements, to prevent biological imbalance in the filter chamber.

Ideal for maintaining high-capacity waterfall biological filtration in large Canadian koi ponds and professional water feature installations.
