The vault elevates the pump above the basin floor and surrounds it with a slotted housing that prevents large debris from reaching the pump intake — significantly reducing cleaning frequency and extending pump service life in outdoor fountain installations where leaf litter, dirt, and fine particles inevitably enter the basin.
How It Protects the Pump
By elevating the pump off the basin floor, the vault prevents it from drawing in settled debris and sand from the bottom of the reservoir. The slotted housing around the pump acts as a pre-filter, blocking larger organic matter before it reaches the pump impeller while allowing sufficient water flow for full pump performance. In practice, this can reduce the frequency of pump cleanings from monthly to seasonally in most outdoor installations.
